Recently I started to notice that my role as a tester extends beyond that of the work place. A couple of examples of this include:
- Using the self service checkouts in Tesco and trying to control my urge to try and break the regular operating procedure and look for bugs with the software.
- The same goes for some of the machines in the gym (although I typically shy away from this sort of activity seeing as I’m likely to fly off a treadmill).
- Trying to conduct boundary testing with the string tension on my Badminton Racket - seeing just how high the tension can go without my game suffering as a result.
- While viewing everyday webpage’s I am always hypersensitive to any unexpected behaviour.
Clearly the mindset I’ve acquired in the workplace through the testing of Iron Speed and Bespoke Web Applications has started to spill out into the real world. Are there any other testers out there that have also experienced this? Or could it perhaps be this side of my personality that drove me to become a software tester in the first place?
